Governor Radda Celebrates Yammama's Elevation to Supreme Court Bench

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has congratulated Justice Jamilu Yammama Tukur on his inauguration as a Justice of the Supreme Court, JSC.

Yammama Tukur, an indigene of Katsina State, and 10 other justices, were sworn in today as JSCs.

Felicitating with Justice Yammama Tukur who is the second Katsina indigene to be appointed a justice of the apex court, Governor Radda said the eminent Katsina judge deserves the elevation he got to the bench of Nigeria's highest court.

According to him, the knowledge of Justice Yammama Tukur on various legal issues is deep and profoundly vast, just as his ability to study and analyze litigations brought before him preparatory to giving sound judgements is extraordinary.

"The elevation of Justice Yammama Tukur to the bench of the apex court is one that every Katsina indigene is celebrating. We wish him success as he adjudicates on cases to be brought before him, as a Supreme Court Justice, now," Governor Radda said. 

*Biography of Justice Jamilu Yammama Tukur*

Born on the 7th of April 1960, he hails from Malumfashi LGA of Katsina State.

Justice Tukur began his educational career at the Dudi Primary School, Malumfashi, Katsina State and later Government Secondary School, Malumfashi, Katsina State.

He obtained his LL.B degree from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1982. He attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos for his BL in 1983.

He was appointed a Judge of the High Court of the FCT on 4th April 2007 and later elevated to the Court of Appeal on 24th March, 2014.

Justice Tukur was a member of the Appeal Court panel that unanimously nullified the election and return of all Candidates of the APC in Zamfara State in 2019.

He read the lead judgement affirming the N50 million fine imposed on Senator Elisha Abbo following the assault of Ms Osimibibra Warmate at a sex gadgets shop in Abuja.

He also read the lead judgement invalidating the powers of LASTMA to impose fines/penalties on traffic offenders.

Before his appointment he was ranked No 41 in the Seniority list of the Appeal Court.
